The OTE Group is the largest telecommunications provider in Greece; together with its subsidiaries, it forms one of the leading telecommunications groups in Southeastern Europe.
It is one of the three largest companies listed on the Athens Stock Exchange in terms of capitalization, while its shares are also traded on the London Stock Exchange. 40% of OTE’s share capital is held by Deutsche Telekom and 6% by the Greek State. The OTE Group employs approximately 21,000 people in 3 countries.
The OTE Group offers the full range of telecommunications services: fixed telephony, mobile telephony and broadband services, pay TV and ICT solutions. In addition to its core telecommunications activities, in Greece the Group is also involved in maritime communications, real estate and training.
Abroad, the Group operates in the telecommunications markets of Romania, where it offers fixed-line and mobile communications, as well as television services, and of Albania, where it offers mobile telephony services.
Aiming to continuously optimize customer experience, the OTE Group established COSMOTE as the unified brand for the Group’s products in fixed-line and mobile telephony, internet services and television.
Telecommunications infrastructure
The OTE Group is the largest national investor in new technologies and infrastructure in Greece, having invested over € 2,000,000,000 over the past 6 years. For the 4-year period 2017-2020, it is implementing an investment plan amounting to € 1,500,000,000, primarily in fiber optics and new generation networks.
At present, OTE provides quality communication using the most advanced telephony and data networks, with over 54,000 kilometers of fiber optics and numerous satellite, submarine and onshore international links to every point of the globe.
In Greece, besides providing a countrywide telephone network, which covers even the remotest and least accessible regions, OTE offers broadband ADSL services to more than 95% of existing telephone connections. The OTE Group places emphasis on replacing the copper network with fiber optics, offering access to VDSL speeds of up to 50 Mbps to more customers. Now, over than 2 million households and businesses have access to these new internet speeds. Moreover, there has been a sharp increase in the bandwidth on the National Core Network, ensuring the flawless management of ever increasing data traffic through the international and national Internet.
The OTE Group is also a pioneer in mobile telephony. It is constantly developing its 3G network, which covers more than 99% of Greece’s population, and, at the end of 2012, it was the first provider in Greece to launch a 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology network. Today, the company is No. 1 in Greece with over 95% of the enjoying 4G coverage. At the beginning of 2015, it also launched its 4G+ LTE Advanced technology network, offering speeds of up to 300 Mbps. Taking advantage of the increased capabilities of its mobile telephony network after acquiring a new spectrum, the Group was the first in Greece - and among the first in the world - to launch mobile internet speeds of up to 500 Mbps. The population coverage for 4G+ has already exceeded 85%.
Financial data
For 2016, the OTE Group announced a turnover of € 3,908,100,000, slightly higher than in the previous year. Adjusted EBITDA stood at € 1,320,900,000 and the EBITDA margin at 33.8%. Free adjusted cash flows were on target, at € 459,000,000.
In 2016, the OTE Group’s adjusted net debt was € 500,000,000, down by 37.9% compared to 2015. The ratio of adjusted Net Debt to 12-month trailing adjusted EBITDA stood at 0.4x. This, combined with its secure cash assets, makes the Group one of the most robust telecommunications operators in Europe.
Corporate Responsibility
The OTE Group has always connected its operations with social contribution. It implements integrated Corporate Responsibility programs and actions, under the pillars of the environment, society, employees and the market. In 2016, it offered over € 3,600,000 for charitable purposes (support to vulnerable social groups, children, education, entrepreneurship, local communities, culture and sports).
